I found this hard to put down, with the real photos included. can't wait to read Hollow City
Awful! I've read many graphic novels and the pacing of this one left me convinced that giant sections must have fallen out of my book! It had next to no character development. The main storyline is about time loops and flashing from present to a past time period. Just impossible juxtapositions and no transition. Ugh!
I grabbed this in a attempt to read the book before seeing the movie when all traditional text versions of the book were checked out of the library. I will hold out hope that the traditional novel is not the same utter failure like it's graphic novel adaptation.

I know that this was missing some things from the book, but it's been a while, so I'm not sure what those things were. The pacing seemed a bit odd, too - the first few chapters were good, but after that, things felt rushed. I did love the use of color in this.
This graphic novel adaptation contains the same plot as the original novel, so if you're wanting a review of the story, you should probably click here. But if you're interested in how the adaptation came out, please read on.

Overall I found the graphic novel of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children to be an excellent adaptation and all-around visual treat. I think it will appeal to fans of the original, as well as intrigue newcomers into discovering and sticking with the peculiar series. The creepy photos are still there, along with visually depicted gun violence, but I wouldn't say it's graphic enough to discourage middle graders (and above) from reading it. So if you find yourself with some extra time on your hands, and are looking for an edge-of-your-seat story with history, fantasy, and art, then Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children: The Graphic Novel should be your first stop.
Approximate Reading Time: 1.5 Hours

I picked up the actual novel for this book and I got to the part where Jacob found the pictures on that suitcase and I don't know why in the hell I stopped reading! Maybe I wasn't feeling it or something... Anyways, I picked up this beautiful graphic novel and I started reading from where I left off on the novel (oh really) AND THAT WAS THE PART WHERE THINGS GOT AWESOME!!!!!!! I very much enjoyed the story and the characters as well and obviously, the gorgeous illustrations! But before reading hollow city I want to actually read MPHfPC
Great story with just enough spookiness. The graphic novel really helps it come to life!
adventurous
medium-paced
Strong character development:

The graphic novel was well done (the color/drawings), but the story was a bit flat. It was strangely simultaneously super faithful to the book and yet lacked the narrative threads that would make me care about the story. But now I remember having mixed feelings about the book for the same reasons. Went back to look at my Goodreads and I have no rating and didn't write a review. The characters in the orphanage were already a bit flat in the novel (like not as interesting as they "should" be), but here the story focuses mostly in Emma and the others fade in the background, quite peculiar, no? ;)
One thing missing from the story, IMHO, is that Jacob was a bit of a loser in his normal life, so discovering that he has a special power was more dramatic in the book.

Great read, the graphics and photos add to the enjoyment of the narrative
