I like the flow of the book; it's sort of like the series '24' in that the entire book is made up of 2 days. I like the concept of being connected, although not biologically, and how the author waited to reveal the characters' races. Slow at some points, but very glad I read it.

Very well written novel about a loving family. The Doyles are a mixed race family and events occur that could drive them apart but they stay devoted to each other and make room for the mother that gave her children away and her daughter.

This novel has a political tone to it but not in a sense that is pushes you to form an opinion. It is more muted in that is shows how politics plays a part in our daily lives.

Ann Patchett is an accomplished author. I cannot wait to read more.

this book was good, not great. the neatly wrapped up ending made me feel this book wasn't as strong as bel canto. still, definitely an engaging read.

As one who often finishes a book in a day or two, this one I took five days. Once into the book & invested in the characters it was more enjoyable, but I found myself wanting more.

More depth, more insight into the characters & the story — which some could say is a good thing. Give the reader enough to be interested then leave it to their own imagination. So if you read for depth & don’t necessarily want to fill in blanks yourself, maybe not the book for you.

Did I enjoy it overall? It was okay. Would I recommend in a discussion with friends about books or someone asking for recommendations? Probably not.

There was a certain coldness to this story that I was surprised by and it might very well have had to do with the deep-voiced male narrator who didn't quite convey the female characters to their fullest. It was, however, set in Boston/Cambridge and so would get a 1/2 star for the fun that added to the experience, if Goodreads would enable the mighty 1/2 star ratings.

(3-4 stars)I remember a book club discussion about this book. Not even sure I read it. Not sure people were very impressed.

I picked it up again after reading about one of the author’s inspirations for the book in These Precious Days. In an interview tucked into the end of my version of the book Ann Patchett attributes the inspiration to a dream. In the same interview she reveals that her husband had at one point considered running for governor. She calls Run a book about politics. For others, it’s a book about family. It could also be a bit about choices: what we do and don’t get a choice over.

I enjoyed the story this time around, mostly for the way in which the tale is crafted. I’d recommend it to others this way: it’s a well-crafted tale that relies too much on coincidence, and can feel a little disjointed with time jumps and character jumps, but is sweet and short (for a novel).

This book will really make you stop and think. I cannot recommend the audio enough — there is an interview at the end with the author that really makes you think.

Not sure what to say about this. It definitely had the fantastic characters and warmth of a Patchett book, but also felt confusing.

Interesting look at how circumstances throw people together. I like the unspoken, unknown bits that the readers learn but the characters don't know. The statue was also really interesting and made me want to have it... oh where or where can I get that statue?? Love the location, too Hello Boston!! Otherwise the characters were really disappointing to me. They were a little flat and perhaps too cliche. The ending disappointing as well - a little too predictable from someone who is good at surprises. Overall a decent read.
