I’ve heard that this is not one of Ann Patchett’s best books, but I really enjoyed it. I love her writing and will read anything by her.

Hope you all had a sweet holiday.

Been working my way through Ann Patchett’s backlist since reading Bel Canto last year & this one might be my favorite yet. It hit home in a way her other stories haven’t for me… Boston, interracial adoption, class/race tensions, faith… lots of topics that resonate for me. While there were a few plot choices that I’m still not sure about

Another Patchett book which drops you into the lives of characters and then just as suddenly pulls you back out. As always the characters were so real that you feel like you might run into them on the street.

I really liked this one. For one, it took place in Boston, and I recognized many of the areas of the South End that the characters lived in. She describes one of my favorite views in the entire city- the view you get when the Red Line goes over the Charles and you get a breath-taking panorama of the whole of Boston. Beautiful. I also really liked enjoyed the characters and the resolution that happened with every family member where they should be.

I fully sobbed reading this. Love love love.

I read quite a few harsh reviews for this book, and I'm glad I decided to read it.

Run is well-written and manages to capture the essence, hearts, and meat of all the characters involved. Beautifully described setting with dense characters and an engaging--although somewhat predictable--plot.

I was a huge fan of Bel Canto, except for the terrible epilogue that ruined the whole thing for me. So, in comparison, I gave run only 3 stars. Had I not hoped for something I liked as much as Bel Canto, I probably would have rated it 4 stars. Or maybe not.

I enjoyed reading it while I was reading it, but it didn't really "stick" with me. And again, the author ended with a fast forward final chapter, which I think is kind of a cop out.

Not bad. I thought it ended kind of abruptly and was hoping for a better ending. I would've liked to see some kind of resolution with Sullivan.

wonderful storytelling! themes of family, adoption, and politics. really heartwarming!

Ann Patchett did such a wonderful job with Bel Canto, it's so disappointing to read further novels that are just . . . bad. This book weaved all over; I could never figure out whose perspective she was trying to portray. The characters were all likeable enough--no "bad guys"-- but I never came to care about any of them.
