excellent conclusion.

This is by far my favorite Vampire Acadmey novel and not just because it is the last in this part of the series. Everything was so wel written. It was quite ajourney (and after a long series full of journeys I was glad to get one so vividly drawn). Instead of tying up all those loose ends in a haphazard and oddly frustrating fashion, it is clear that she had a plan for each and every character from page one, book one. This is the kind of writing that makes sticking with longer series worthwhile. This series (and more importantly itss conclusion) should be required reading for all aspiring paranormal romance writers. Five stars.

Reread, January 2023: LOLing that my first review said I was exhausted by the relationship drama, because thinking about it now in context of Rose/Dimitri in the show has me like OM NOM NOM ANGST. PLEASE give me fraught conversations in various hotel rooms across the country (or…Europe on the show I guess?) whilst executing a series of escalating heists. I do hope they go a different direction with Adrian, if they still decide to do Rose/Adrian at all (and I’m guessing they will, with the “hello, little dhampir” line).

Anyway, I said I was going to read Bloodlines and then I didn’t, but I actually am this time!

Original review, September 2017: This whole series was a pretty solid like-but-not-love for me. I think the only thing that truly shocked me was the end of book 3, which I was not at all expecting, but I'm not sure if they payoff of that lived up to that shock. And by this book I was pretty exhausted by the relationship drama, mostly because love triangles where the outcome is 100% obvious always kind of exhaust me (but then, that's YA, and I'm not exactly in that demographic anymore, so that's on me, I guess). I did love Rose and Lissa's friendship, and I might pick up Bloodlines at some point.

4.5

Can I first say that I loved this series and have followed it since the beginning...however, the last two books made me HATE, and I mean hate, Rose. She is selfish and lead Adrian on (that's the real reason why I don't like her, he was my favorite character damn her!). I tend to stay away from books with love triangles because I can't stand one person getting hurt, but this wasn't a love triangle. This was Rose, knowing full well that Adrian was unstable and in love with her, deciding to play a guy to the fullest extent. Now you could argue that she was just so in love with Dimitri and couldn't live without him, but if she knew that Dimitri was the one for her why did she decide to mess with Adrian? Because she just wanted to move on? That and she just doesn't give a damn about anyone's feelings except her own and Lisa's.

I'm so glad that the next series is about Sydney not Rose or I wouldn't be able to read it.

It's not like this book didn't have flaws, but I didn't have the plot twists all predicted this time around. Plus I just love the characters and the whole series so much I had to push it to five stars. This series is too much fun to pass up.

I liked the way Rose and Dimitri developed their relationship. They're essentially starting over, trying to be friends, trying to still respect their jobs and friendships and their self respect. It's compelling.

And the society stuff was good again, which I feel like I've said in every review, but we found yet another different perspective in this book in the Keepers and it was interesting. It could have been developed more, or come back in at the end, but it was interesting.

So many of these installments have been entertaining to me without being surprising, but this one did both. I predicted the love triangle outcome a long time ago, of course, but the identity of Tatiana's murderer left me guessing until just before Rose told everyone. It made sense, but it wasn't entirely easy to guess for me.

Speaking of that love triangle though...
SpoilerPoor Adrian. I knew he wasn't gonna get the girl but I still felt for him at the end there. He was a solid character. Rose had it right though, I think that they were genuinely not right for each other. I just wish she hadn't cheated on him.

He was right too though, that Rose made out a lot better than maybe she should have. She got her guy, and got a stellar job, even after all her misbehaving. It was a tad perfect, but I can't begrudge her, the girl that feels like a friend to me, her good luck and happiness. She's a good enough person to deserve it.

Then we have the uncertain future for secondary characters like Sydney and Eddie, though it looks like they appear in the companion series, so that's probably going to turn out to just be a good set-up.

I recommend this series so much, it's so much fun to read and the books just kept getting better and better.

The main thing I'm wondering is after all that's happened has anyone bothered to even tell Dimitri's family that he is alive?

An incredibly satisfying ending. I appreciate the loose threads and the messiness left in the wake of the characters' journeys. No matter how many times I read the series, I am still as drawn in and involved as the first.

Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead is the sixth and final book in the Vampire Academy series.

I loved the beginning, when everyone went in and broke Rose out of jail. The general plot of this book was better and more fun that the previous one. Even though the last time that the characters were in different places I didn't like it, it was better this time because at least there was more interaction and plot involvement with the whole gang. There was a little lull in the excitement but you expect that from every story. There were also a few plot points that did really shock me, I would expect nothing less from the finale of the series.

The shit that went on with Dimitri and Lissa still pissed me off. Like Dimitri only broke Rose out of prison because Lissa told him to??? This thing between just pissed me off more and more the longer it went on.

I kind of wanted Rose to end up with Adrian because I prefer Adrian to Dimitri, but Adrian also deserves better than Rose and it was totally obvious that she would end up with Dimtri anyway. She was constantly thinking about Dimitri when she was still with Adrian and it just annoyed me so much, it was practically cheating. Then she actually did cheat on him and like okay it's great Rose and Dimitri are happy but it was so shit of her, Adrian deserves SO MUCH BETTER. He got all upset and angry and was shouting about how he loved her and I was just not okay at all.

I felt really sorry for Dimitri when he had to act Strigoi. Then when he had a breakdown and I just was not okay, I hate seeing characters that come across as so strong and brave have a breakdown, it's so heartbreaking.

I didn't expect the twist of who killed Tatiana to happen and
SpoilerI felt really sorry for Christian when we found out it was Tasha. Christian has been through so much with his family already :-((

Still didn't like Jill in this book, even with the role she had. Like no thanks I find you really annoying go away please ?? I don't even know why she annoyed me anymore, I think it's just because she was so childish in previous books.

Overall, I was satisfied with this ending. I wish the cheating storyline didn't happen cause it really bugged me but in the grand scheme of the entire book, I was happy. The way Rose's relationships ended with her parents was really nice. I'll definitely pick up the Bloodlines series in the future, love Adrian and hate Jill so that series should be interesting.

I definitely recommed this series as a whole, it was so much fun and the majority of the main characters were a lot of fun!

I bought this yesterday and finally had time to start it at 8:30. I literally couldn't put it down. The only time I allowed myself to do so was for bathroom breaks and to get ready for bed. I stayed up until 2:30 in the morning because I refused to go to bed until it was finished.

I wasn't happy with the last two books and I was scared for this one.
It definitely surprised me. The plot was better, but it still seemed like the same old story. Rose and Dimitri fighting for/over their love.
Don't get me wrong, I love them both to pieces, but six books about the same thing is bound to get tiring.
I know that's what the whole series is about, and I do love love stories, but I felt like it wasn't really justified as much as I would have liked. His response to Rose in the last book wasn't continued in this book, and I think that it should have taken them longer to get back together. I think she should have told Adrian right away when she knew that she would never get over Dimitri. Even if she tried as hard as she could.

When I read that Sydney was back, I was pissed. But as I read more, I realized she was actually quite decent. I'm not sure if I'm ready to read a whole series about her, but I have until April (?).
Abe was fantastic as always, but I felt like Adrian wasn't in it as much as I would have liked. He was my one of my favourites. The last part he was in broke my heart. I don't think that should have been his ending.

Besides Adrian’s bit, the ending was fantastic.
I imagined it perfectly in my mind and I squealed a little bit.
It definitely redeemed itself in my mind.

Overall, I really did like this book. I got lost in it, like I had in the earlier ones. It just wasn't /perfect/. But, you know, the author and some readers are never going to agree on everything, and it's just something I'll have to live with.

It’s hard to say but the Vampire Academy is done.
(Well, not really, you can still re-read your books all the time)
It was a long run, but it was worth it, even during the dull parts.
Thank-you Richelle Mead for creating such spectacular characters and a fascinating world.
