Not my favorite Moyes book, but also not bad! The main character is discontent in most of the book and longing for something more, and when she finds him, she upends her whole life without a second thought to those affected. It had a cool storyline of her parents too, which made the book more intriguing.

A bit boring and too long, sorry to say. For some reason I missed Maeve Binchy's storytelling while reading this.

I just couldn't really get into this story or these characters, unfortunately. :/

I really wanted to like this, but it was such a mess. If Goodreads allowed half stars, I’d have given it 1.5, and I’m still on the fence about rounding up.

Long chapters that skipped around in narration (with the narrator sometimes anyone’s guess until a chapter break), uneven timeline, unclear protagonist. The complexity of abuse, and why victims don’t always leave when they should, was conveyed well - but that just made other apparently acceptable misogynistic behavior more disturbing: for example, the whole patriarchy/sexism thing going on in society (were we to believe it was small-town mentality?) and, worse, Alejandro’s threat to “haunt” (a.k.a. stalk) Suzanna and his refusal to leave after she told him no.

I probably should’ve quit reading one of the many times I was tempted to stop; I’m not sure I was satisfied by seeing it through to the end.

3.5 -- which is interesting to me since I really didn't care for the main character. :)

Having been a big fan of Me Before You and really enjoying Last Letter from Your Lover and The Girl You Left Behind, I was eager to seek of more book by Jojo Moyes and found one of her earlier works Peacock Emporium. Sadly, this does not come close to being as good at the others. There are flashes of what she's capable of, but it gets lost along the way. The primary problem for me is that the main character Suzanna has got to be one of the most unsympathetic people in the whole story. She is selfish, immature, unpleasant, and just plain annoying. Most of the supporting cast doesn't help much either with the exception of Vivi and Jessie. I'll still read other books by Moyes, but may just stay away from some of the earlier books.
