This was a good final book. My only complaint is that I really don’t like how we flip back and forth between the future and the present.

Don't get me wrong - I still enjoyed this. But the pacing was a lot slower than the others. It felt like there was a lot more "hurry up and wait" to this story. In fact, when it came time for the final showdown between the Emperor and the would-be usurper, the fight was over and done with in a blink. It was like the story had to be dragged out to fill the time.

Also, this "feud" between Alyss and Evanlyn? Kind of unnecessary. True, I prefer Alyss as a character. Evanlyn just... I don't like her as much. I can't really put my finger on why, but Alyss is a lot more likable to me. I wish she'd gotten more to do than bicker with Evanlyn. I mean, Will and Horace were rivals in the beginning, but they became best friends pretty quick. And it is true that girls hold grudges for a lot longer than boys do. So taking that into account, that's pretty true to form. Doesn't mean I have to like it (but I dealt with plenty of catty girls in my growing up years - definitely my least favorite part of middle and high school).

(Maybe I just want a series of Alyss and Lady Pauline being awesome courier ladies. Probably wouldn't be as action packed, but I felt like they were criminially underused in this whole series.)

It may be time for a break from this world. I know the Lost Stories are next and I will get to that one (and the other spin-off series), but I'm going to read other things before I tackle anymore Ranger's Apprentice.

Mainly because it was starting to get old. Nothing wrong with the book, just my attitude while reading it.

Another fun adventure w the boys of Araluen!

This has been a great series..I will miss it.
