This was a typical early Julia Quinn. The characters hate each other for a good part of the book, although the heroine hates the guy for most of it. The I hate you stuff just went on way too long for me. They fell in love and then were separated for seven years and each one thinks the other one had bad motives the first time around, when of course it was all a misunderstanding due to their fathers not wanting the match.
"...only fools and poets fall in love at first sight."
"Because she makes me feel alive."
"Don't be sarcastic, Torie."
"Then I suppose I cannot say anything."
"Someday you will realize what it means to be loved. I just wish it would be soon."
"I never thought I would see the day when an English household would be out of tea."

Robert was too insufferable.
It was enjoyable but this man just did not listen to Victoria and it bothered me to no end.

I’ve been a big fan of the Bridgerton books (and series) so I was naturally intrigued about this one. I already know the author writes a good historical regency era romance so the chance to get to know some new characters was one I couldn’t pass up!
We go from the Bridgertons to the Lyndon Sisters. Victoria takes centre stage in this one - daughter of a country vicar, she manages to catch the attention of an Earl and a future marquis.
It’s a fast mover and launches out the gates from the get go. Given how quickly things moved, I was even more intrigued how the rest of the hundreds of pages were going to go. Or ten hours in my case, I listened to the greatly narrated audiobook read by Olivia Darnley who fit the role perfectly.
I enjoyed this story and the introduction to the Lyndon sisters. I already love Eleanor and Victoria was very easy to get to like. Although she did slightly start to grate on me with her indecision and I couldn’t quite decide if Robert was an utter bag or endearingly persistent. I was leaning towards bag but I did enjoy the dynamic between the two.
Will definitely continue on with this series and read the next one as I really did like Ellie and I’m excited to read her story. It set itself up to be a great follow up!
Thank you to the author and publisher for this audiobook on NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts and review.

They fall in love at first sight and I can absolutely not stand it. He sees her and they barely even talked but they are sooo in love?! I really like all other books by Julia Quinn, I even read the book about the other Lyndon sister and I absolutely loved all of them. But this beginning was so bad that I read the overview of the book from Storygraph, in the hopes that this was her bad ex lover who did her dirty and she would find another guy. When I saw that this was not going to be the case I read reviews with spoilers and realized the book is not going to get better, in terms of romance. And romance is not talking only about her appearance and how lovely she looks! Also ,to show that I really like her other books, I did not read the overview of the book beforehand because I thought: "Oh a Julia Quinn book, this is going to be good" and didn't bother reading the overview, which I should have probably done.
To sum this up: I am really disappointed and don't understand how this book can be so bad when all her other books are so good. I really tried liking this but after a while I just couldn't read any further.

Meh. Definitely not Ms. Quinn's best story.
I didn't really have any affection for the somewhat cardboardish characters. The plot was a little thin and the ending was just trite & silly.

oof this one was bad. a little toxicity in a romance novel can be fun but this was overkill — probably also not helped by the fact i read this in french
