Best book I have read about writing, ever!

I wish I could put this book on a USB and upload it into my head. I am not a writer, but as a reader, I am amazed by the writing process. I listen to writers talk about where they find their ideas, their writing processes, the voices they hear, and the joys and frustrations of writing. Anne Lamott captures so much of what I have heard in elegant and humorous prose. I "tagged" many quotes from the book, but want to remember this: "Writing and reading decrease our sense of isolation. They deepen and widen and expand our sense of life: they feed the soul."

For some reason, I didn't have to read this during my undergrad creative writing classes, although it was mentioned often. I picked up a copy second-hand, and am really enjoying it and finding it inspiring creatively.

Sort of annoying, too cute

A beautiful and reflective book about writing, and about the art of living for its own sake, instead of for what it can gain you.

Tagline is a good descriptor of the content. Its not a “how to” book, more like “why do” book. I won’t rate a full 4 stars because the writing is too… whimsical? Not the word I want but works. I see too much of my own purple prose in it to like it properly, however I felt emotional and rekindled my whys to write, so job done I guess. (Maybe I should give it 4 stars, huh)
