Lovely undulating prose. Sentences dancing with meaning and fresh imagery.
Very offbeat for sure.

such an odd story. the prose was very very beautiful and you can definitely see the modernist influences. it is giving stream of consciousness.

i really like the way it seems preoccupied with time and the way it works differently between erl and elfland.

really entertained by lurulu and the other trolls being scared of dogs. and angels. and a lot of things. i feel sorry for the unicorns though!

nice reunion of everyone at the end and i fully understand why lirazel wished to return to elfland - after alveric attempts to force her to be the perfect human wife - but it is unfortunate that she has to leave orion ! he just spends his entire life hunting.

so much description and so little dialogue. occasionally difficult to stay engaged when so much time is devoted to describing the natural world. but fun at times!

This is pretty good and written in a very easily digestible style rather than the more over descriptive style of most fantasy books, so you can read it in a few days and get just as much adventure from it. Not sure if fantasy is really my kind of genre so I didn't love it, but appreciated the style.

This was very different to what I’ve read before, very poetic and whilst there is very little dialog it was enchanting, very much a show me what is happening rather than tell me story (think LOTR but without the talking). I slowed down to read it just to take it all in and savour it. It has fae, trolls, witch, wizard, magic runes, unicorns and wisps so plenty of interesting and mysterious magic to make up for the lack of talking. Not sure how I felt about the parts involving hunting with dogs but this was written a long time ago. Overall an enchanting read.

I FINALLY FINISHED IT. I AM V PROUD OF MYSELF

So. Beginning, amazing. End, amazing. In between, I despaired. I can see how this inspired Tolkien, obviously this is the OG Elrond (King of Elfland) and Arwen (Lirazel, who chose a mortal). The witch Ziroonderel made the book for me.
