Tao and Riley.
Good grief, this series just never let's me down. Yea, every book involved an unseen or unwanted mating bond. Yes, there are always catty, jealous bitches in the mix. Yes, there's always a bad guy or twenty trying to kill the pack.
But it's amazing.
Tao and Riley were sexy and sweet. The kids were sweet. Seeing the old pack was amazing. And I can't wait to meet the mates from Mercury!

Net Galley ARC received from Montlake Romance for an honest review
4 ‘Borrowed not Stolen’ Stars
Let’s be honest here. I am a fan of the Phoenix and Mercury Pack, as I have read every title in the series and I am always in a state of anxious anticipation for the next release. Needless to say, I gracelessly leapt on the opportunity to read the advanced copy of Fierce Obsessions from Net Galley. And this book did not disappoint, filled with sassy characters, interesting shifter dynamics and – of course – hot sex.
Riley Porter is a raven shifter and protector of the adorable shifter children, Savannah and Dexter. She was first introduced in Savages Urges as Makenna’s fellow worker at the lone shifter shelter, and circumstances lead her to seek refuge for the children at Phoenix pack territory. The only problem she faced from being fully accepted by the pack was Tao Lukas, head enforcer and incredibly suspicious of outsiders. He wanted her gone. So not the best start but interesting enough to find her waking up after a tequila-drenched party to have Tao naked in her bed. The two move quickly from fling to ‘something more’ as Tao is not one to avoid a problem and Riley appreciates upfront behaviour.
The romance was refreshing after so many of the other couples had a long, slow road to romance – often hindered by their own omissions and hesitancy to bonding. This couple pulled no punches, their blunt natures fuelled their passion which sped into a devoted relationship. Riley and Tao natures perfectly suited, as Tao would bluster and Riley would just roll her eyes and ignore the ranting. Another refreshing development was their pasts were not something hidden or not spoken of, as they maintained an open channel of communication and respect.
I thoroughly enjoyed exploring deeper into the shifter world, as the raven shifter mentality and customs differ to the wolves. Riley’s past, which shaped her approach to relationships, was curious as she was affected by two tragic events but was still surrounded by loving friends and family.
Another excellent addition to the Phoenix pack series to be released June 13th and the perfect romance to spice up your summer/winter reading.

So, I was not surprised when the mating bond snapped into place fully formed, it was great to have a couple already so in tune with each other that they didn’t have to prove anything more.I thoroughly enjoyed exploring deeper into the shifter world, as the raven shifter mentality and customs differ to the wolves. I like that true mates can be found across species as it opens the field for so many other shifter species to be introduced into both packs.Another excellent addition to the Phoenix pack series to be released June 13th and the perfect romance to spice up your summer/winter reading.
A fantastic read. A wonderful read full of adventure and love.
This series is starting to lose its luster for me. This book wasn’t bad, just not riveting. It’s just more of the same. Maybe I’m tired of the characters, maybe I’m tired of the formula. This book didn’t have the insane OW drama that the previous books had, which I kind of missed. I enjoyed that the h rescues the H, but their overall chemistry was underwhelming. I wish the ménage scene from the first book hadn’t been cut because that would’ve made this book MUCH more interesting. I will probably finish this series, but I’m in no rush.
In Fierce Obsessions, We have Riley and Tao’s Story. Tao is the head enforcer of the Phoenix Pack, and is pretty overprotective of the pack especially when new arrivals come into it. Riley, is a raven shifter and is one of the newest additions to the pack. At first Tao doesn’t hide his mistrust of her at all. Riley hasn’t had a an easy time of it. She was forced to become a loner, without a pack but became a protector of two orphaned shifters and will do anything to keep them safe and happy, and that includes dealing with the grumpy head enforcer Tao. But then his feelings for her change, and now Tao will have to prove himself to her.
What a book this turned out to be and I loved every moment with these two and was thrilled to have the chance to review this. There is something so real about this series, I have fallen hard for this series. Its not only the romances that I fall for, but seeing the pack dynamics and the great world building that we see as this author develops this series and the connecting series The Mercury Pack. Tao is one of my favorite characters of the series, but I will admit that he can be mean and rude at times and this story we see this grumpy wolf have to work hard to get his girl and with two protective children in tow, it is not going to be easy for him, but he definitely rises up to the challenge.
“Because you’re trouble. You might look harmless enough, but I know crazy when I see it.” He tapped her nose. “You, little raven, are far from sane.” She smiled. “I think that’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
From the beginning of the story, we see Tao and Riley drawn into danger and the secrets of Riley’s past. And boy does this book get intense with the mystery and the action and seeing the plot develop into a wild ride of sexy lovin, drama, silly laughs and a love story that will melt your heart. Definitely a keeper in my book. Fantastic job Wright!! You keep rocking this series.

I think I enjoyed this re-read more than my initial read. I'm going to stick with the original 3 stars. The story is great and it's interesting to see shifters other than furry ones but I think I prefer the furry kind. I would have liked to see more of a connection between them.
