As usual with this series, there were some great moments of suspense and action. Riley and Tao were good as a couple, and they acknowledged their faults and talked things out. Surprisingly, I would have liked a bit more about Cynthia to have been discussed. There was a particular plot point (revealed by Duncan) that I felt really should have gone somewhere instead of being something just mentioned in passing.
Fierce obsessions
It’s been a long time since I first read this series and I enjoyed reading them again. I’m not sure if this book wasn’t out when I read them last or if I just got distracted with something else. I wasn’t sure I would like Riley and Tao together. They both had extremely difficult personalities and I couldn’t see how they fit. However them seemed to compliment each other perfectly. Loved this story and seeing them come together.

Riley and Tao’s relationship was surprisingly low angst and sweet (don’t worry, Tao is still uber possessive as this is a Suzanne Wright book). I really enjoyed how they went from “we’re just casual” to “I love you and would lay down my life for you”, without the “I cannot be with you for reasons” phase.
The story flowed really well, with a contained mystery plot that actually kept me guessing. There was also a change in scenery and the introduction of new characters (they spent some time with Riley’s flock, she’s a raven shifter) that kept the story feeling fresh even though this is the 8th book in the Phoenix/Mercury series.

I've loved Tao since book 1 so I'm so glad he got his HEA! This book spent a big chunk away from the Phoenix Pack because Riley is a raven shifter from Arizona so I didn't love that - or that she is adoptive mom to two orphan shifters (a viper and a cougar) but they were barely featured. Normally I'm not big on single parent romances but wish they'd played a bigger role.
