Betty White read it to me on YouTube. Nothing beats Betty White extolling the fun you can have getting dirty!
Simple and entertaining story about a dog trying to avoid his bath. Eventually he gets so dirty that his owners don't even recognize him, so he digs up the scrub brush he hid earlier and jumps into the bathtub, eager to be clean (and recognizable) again. Of course, he promptly hides the brush afterwards. This endearing story just makes me (and my kids) smile.

Harry the Dirty Dog is a fun story about a dog's adventure and finding his way back home. This book is written by Gene Zion and illustrated by Margaret Bloy Graham. The book was published in 1956 and is still read today! It was originally printed in black and white but was re published in 2002 in color by the originally artist, Margaret. I think this book is appropriate for all elementary ages and would be enjoyed by most of them! This book follows a dog who doesn't want to take a bath... He instead runs off to avoid it, he meets different animals and goes on different adventures. Everyone of them cause him to become more dirty. So dirty that when he heads back home his family doesn't recognize their own dog. To make his family notice he does the unthinkable... he runs upstairs and leaps into the bath to clean off so he will be recognizable. In the harry is back with his family! I think this book was good, there was nothing that really stuck out making it the best book but I enjoyed it. I think in the classroom this could be used as a brain break/just a fun read. There isn't a huge lesson I learned from the book so I would probably just use this kind of book when I could tell they needed a break. <adventure> <funny> <animals>

A very cute story about a dog whose family loves him. He learns that getting baths isn't so bad after all!
A cute children’s book about a dog named Harry. Not one of my favourites.
Another childhood favorite! Harry hates baths, and loves adventures! I love the thick-lined art of the illustrations and the recoloring, done by Graham in 2002, brightens the greens and blues in the original. Another wonderful book that was reassuring for a shy, introverted, secret adventurer. I loved books like this one, and others, that showed me characters who had adventures and were welcomed back to the arms of a loving family!
I’m very fond of Harry, the little white dog who wants to do ‘dogly’ things and ends up so dirty that his family doesn’t recognize him. How can he make them see it’s him?
Harry, of course, appears in several books, including No Roses for Harry!, a copy of which still sits on my book shelf.
