This book is an improvement in almost every way to Priory (even though I still do like Priory a great deal). The characters are all loveable and interesting to follow, with an incredibly diverse cast. The book, though, gets 5 stars due to Glorian's heartbreaking plotline regarding her pregnancy and is very prescient given current world events regarding gender roles and abortion rights.

In order to enjoy more and understand better this book, you should read first “The priory of the orange tree” even though this one is set hundreds of years later. That’s because the author wrote “the priory of the orange tree” first.
This was INSANELY long. Like it was so long I can’t even review it. I mean the story was interesting, but I liked Orange Tree way better. But I feel like these characters were the same at the Orange Tree characters. But honestly it was just so fucking long, I barely remember what happened at the beginning. This was very well written, but just not the book for me. I wish I had skipped it. #engelbrechtreads2023 #engelbrechtreads

I don’t know if I was in the right mindset for this book. I loved most of the storylines, but this book dragged on for me. It was interesting to see more of the world Shannon built before the events of POTOT.
Was listening to the audiobook and could not stand the narrator for Unora. The pacing and her voice/accent were not doing it for me. I ended up looking for reviews and seeing a lot of people saying they dnf’d it. Lost interest in committing to slogging through it after that.
