This is a thoughtful and impactful guide that looks into the complexities of human relationships and emphasizes the importance of self-healing as a foundation for forming healthy and fulfilling connections with others. The author's integrative and holistic perspective on psychology is both refreshing and comprehensive, and I love how she effectively combines scientific research with practical exercises to make complex theories accessible. The book is filled with actionable tools, including journal prompts, exercises, and real-life stories, designed to help readers identify and address their unmet needs, develop emotional resilience, and cultivate deeper connections. I appreciate her sharing her own vulnerability. While the book covers a wide range of topics, some areas may lack depth, and the reiteration of key concepts can feel repetitive.

DID NOT FINISH

I had such high hopes for this book, as my therapist mentions it frequently in our sessions. I had to throw it in the DNF pile, though. I’ll have to stick to my therapist, who has somehow managed to extract and more eloquently present the very few helpful insights that are hidden in massive amounts of self-pity and spiritual preaching that is this book. I also know more about this author’s parade of sexual partners than I ought to know by reading a self-help book. Apply your lessons in a practical format, please, doctor.

DID NOT FINISH

Did not finish - put off by the very hasty and unconvincing invocation of quantum mechanics to prove the existence of the soul.

I wish I could give this book 30 stars. It’s not just another self help book, it actually helps!

I stumbled across this author on TikTok and when I found out she wrote books I had to give them a try. This one was grounded in principles that I have heard before from other respected psychologists. There were a few new ideas and the reminders of nutrition and health were very helpful! The narrator did a good job and the audiobook held my attention. I want to try reading the physical book someday. I will say I felt like there was a lot of personal information in this book that I didn’t care for - I was here for the meat of the self-help information. I am excited to try to read her other books! I have already recommended this book to 2 other friends. It made me think a lot about my trauma history and brought up some good things to think about.
