Such a fun story. I really enjoyed reading this.
Not as predictable as other Cabot novels. A quick enjoyable read.
Sometimes you need a little Meg Cabot in your life and fortunately, she has written plenty of books. Jean heads to NYC to live with her rich aunt and uncle and their kids due to some incident at home in Iowa. Country girl meets big city...plus Jean's bad luck seems to follow her, as it does everywhere. But is some of the bad luck due to her cousin Tori casting spells she shouldn't be?
Yes, Tori and Jean both believe they are the granddaughters their grandmother said would inherit the talent for witchcraft in the family. Jean is quiet about it, she tries to reject it. Tori uses it to try to be cool. The witchcraft works well to explore teenage themes and coming-of-age themes in just the way you would expect from Meg Cabot.
I listened to this one and it was perfect. Just enough surprises in the plot, with lots of characters doing nearly what you expect from them. Although I will say I am shocked this book is from 2007--so many references to landlines. Even though cell phones were not nearly as ubiquitous as they are today, they still weren't used quite as commonly as they are in this book.

I actually read this book back in 2010. I just remembered now to add it to my read shelf. This was my first Meg Cabot book. And at the time it was one of the most fascinating fantasy I had ever read. I recommend this to any fan of Meg Cobat.
Meg Cabot used to be one of my favorite authors, but then her books lost a bit of their appeal. Maybe because she was writing so many, so fast. The last couple have been, while not as good as the first ones, a lot better. This one's a mix of her usual romance, with a bit of the supernatural thrown in.
OMG, that waz a really good book!! the charcters fit the plot perfectly
Since she was born, bad luck has followed Jean. She doesn't buy into her grandmother's stories about her families past saying that either her or her cousin Tory are the next generation of witches in their family. But then, she is forced to move to New York City with her Aunt and Uncle - Tory's parents - because of a situation back in Iowa.
Nobody at her school seems to accept her but her cousin - because she has to - and Zach, who Tory is in love with. Things aren't going too good in New York, until her luck changes. But who knows what her cousin will plan for her. And what is really is Zach's problem every time she brings up Petra, the au pair who Zach is in love with?
Jinx is up to Meg Cabot standards. I have to say it is one of my favorites by her. I think she has lots of clones -- that's why she can write such good books so much. After How to be Popular, which I didn't think was one of her best books, Jinx was very good. Even if you aren't into the whole magic scene, you will enjoy the book. Magic does make up a big part of it - but it's not the whole story. Not everything centers around it.

As a preteen I loved this book, but rereading it as an adult, I wanted more background on Jean. Her experience with magic was just stated as fact and given no information at all
cute book. i may get this for my best friends daughter.
