This is such a gripping book! I was hooked immediately and it had some chilling moments even reading as an adult - the oldschool vampire influences like Dracula definitely shine through.
Definitely a favorite and I will be recommending it to readers of all ages! Now I gotta find the sequel...

I don't read Middle Grade too often, but I'm glad I didn't skip out on The Vanquishers (The Vanquishers #1) by Kalynn Bayron. It's a lot of fun! It reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and even The Goonies in the best way. The characters are at the heart of the story and that really makes it work. I'm looking forward to read the next book in the series, Secret of the Reaping.

In the world of the Vanquishers, vampires were history . . . until now.
I was so unsure about reading this book due to the fact I generally donât enjoy vampire stories but Iâm so glad I gave it a chance as I throughly enjoyed reading this.
This is about a group of young children malika aka boog, cedrick, & jules who are next door neighbours all their lives one day a new boy,Aaron comes along and they are fast to invite them to the squad it isnât long until Aaron goes missing, and itâs up to the 3 musketeers to find out where or what really happened to Aaron.
8/10 really enjoyed this canât wait for the next book

This was super fun, I'm annoyed about the massive cliffhanger though. It does work, and I can't wait for the next book, but I wish there had been just a bit more closure. But I love some fun, spunky kids racing around on bikes on adventures!

Vampires in middle school? Yes please! I loved this modern day Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Van Helsing, Vampire Hunter style story. Boog is a strong leader and fights for what she believes in. There was a LOT of humor in the story too. The parents were strict but only because they worry and want whatâs best for the kids. The reader can definitely empathize with Boog and her feelings about her overprotective parents. What Middle Schooler doesnât want their parents all up in their business. I cannot WAIT for the sequel!!!
Whatâs supposed to be the same old same old in MS turns out to be Boog/Malikaâs destiny/future. She knows about the Reaping of all vampires, sheâs heard the tales of the Vanquishers, she even KNOWS oneâŚshe thinks her parents are over the top with safety measures, when there hasnât been a vampire sighting in over 20 yearsâŚbut when her new friend Aaron goes missing, she doesnât know what to think. Together with her best friends, she has to âsprayâ out the vamps and try to find Aaron while trying NOT to get into trouble with her parents or Mr. Rupert, the annoying new counselor.
