the beginning and ending were really strong and very good depictions of grief- (I love when the main character is a writer) the middle was abit boring for me but still had powerful moments!
I was going to rate this book a literal 2 stars if they got back together. I was so scared but I’m very thankful they stayed apart #girlboss

Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I had high expectations based on other reviews. I couldn’t get into it and ended up skipping to the end to know how it ends.

okay, this book is misleading. in the sense that i was expecting to be sad about this relationship ending, instead i was deeply depressed about kate losing her mother and everything surrounding that. this book is very melancholy and towards the end, bittersweet. i can confirmed i teared up! we know i love sad books because they make me #feel. the grief you go through with kate about her relationship ending and the grief of losing her mother are two different beasts mixed together make for a great fun time. the talk about letting go of this version of life they would’ve had got me badddd. a great book that i finished all in one day, would recommend.

Middle was meh but the ending was strong. was more interested in her relationship with her mother and father. Not the breakup

Whew this was unexpectedly deep! Hazel Hayes' signature lyrical prose shines in a layered story that is about so much more than a breakup. I loved her reflections on grief, writing, art and Irish culture and beliefs. I am officially a Hazel stan!
