Hazel Hayes is one of my favorite writers after her debut “Out of Love.” “Better by Far” was similar in nature, but different in spirit. It focused much more on the intricacies of grief, loss and life, rather or in addition to an unraveling love story. I enjoyed it. It certainly picks up the more you read on!

Katie's emotions and inner battle are intricate and thoroughly expressed throughout the story. I quickly became attached to her character, and the story's second-person perspective definitely contributed to my swift attachment.

Outside of the plot, Hazel's writing is beautiful. I can't remember the last time I read a novel with such graceful and descriptive language. She impeccably incorporates Irish culture and language into the story. The occasional language lessons and stories bring realism and a true heart to the story.
