The Eyes and the Impossible is the 2024 Newbery Medal winner, and it's a story told with a unique voice. Written in a way that mimics how a child might speak—especially when it comes to numbers like: age, miles, and time—it offers a refreshing and whimsical perspective. The narrative captures a sense of wonder and innocence while tackling deep themes, making it both accessible and meaningful for young readers and adults alike. It's a story that invites readers into a world full of imagination, where even the simplest things can feel extraordinary.

this book had me crying over a seagull 10/10 no notes
I usually refrain from commenting when I haven't finished the book, but this one has me stumped. How was this selected as the Newbery winner? I couldn't care enough about the dog or story to continue reading. Is there a child that would?

I know I was warned at the very beginning that the places in the book were not real. Except... this place seemed awfully familiar to me, and I reveled in that feeling. It was described in such excruciatingly accurate detail that I recognized Cape Man. I must admit that I became annoyed when Johannes learned a fact about the location of his park from the goats, and that fact didn't go with what I thought I knew about the park. I then proceeded to feel disappointed when the plot went in a different direction than I was expecting, but I did stop short of throwing my copper De Young Museum bookmark across the room.
Now that I've gotten that off of my chest, this was an enjoyable escape with unique and truly loveable characters.
