the writing style of this book was so absorbing, it felt even lesser than the 320 pages that it amounted to. i really liked the way the coming-of-age tale of the narrator was handled and the nuance that went into the handling of the civil war as a backdrop, at least as much was possible through a child's lens.

I particularly liked the author's writing and style. I found that the fact that the riots only happen at the epilogue were a special choice at first, but thinking about it, it makes sense, as the story is particularly focused on our main character's growth.

Some chapters and plotlines really shone in this. I enjoyed my time with this character all the way through. It captures a perspective and a time in Sri Lankan history that I knew nothing about.
