So good. Read this is a single sitting and felt bad about the cold water I could get from the fridge if I was thirsty.
Lovely story of hope
I really enjoyed this story and how it went between the two different time periods and characters. My 4th grade daughter recommended it to me and I thought it was perfect for her developmental readiness to hear about the harships of refugees.

Quick, powerful read about the lost boys of South Sudan. This story highlights the powerful journey of boy and how as a man he uses his blessings to bless others.
We all really enjoyed this story. The girls begged for another chapter almost every day. We learned about a time in history that none of us knew very much about. Such a moving and inspiring story to keep moving and helping.

I read this in one evening. It was a quick read, but still beautifully written. The transitions between narrators was so seamless and always kept me wanting to keep reading to find out what happened next… hence why I read it in one night.
Perfect for middle school-aged readers. There’s obvious violence, but it’s not descriptive or gory, and the story never revolves around it.
Great for an adult who wants a quick escape without committing to a longer or more arduous book.

A very simple story but one everyone should read. The strength and resilience of Salva and Nya is inspiring. The Water for South Sudan project is changing lives, particularly for women and girls.
Whenever he found himself losing hope, Salva would take a deep breath and think of his uncle’s words. “A step at a time. One problem at a time. Just figure out this one problem.” Day by day, solving one problem at a time, Salva moved toward his goal.
