And in the end he gained no education at all. *facepalm* I can't even be truly annoyed because the conclusion is just so typical.

The book started a bit slow but overtime it did start to pick up, especially in Part 3 which I heavily enjoyed. Flaubert is really good at writing characters that you should hate as I left this book having negative opinions about practically everyone in this story. It can be a bit confusing at first, especially with all the names that can be thrown but I think when you realize how the book takes places before, during, and after the French Revolution of 1848 you start to realize how most of the names are just political figures so don't stress about it too much. Do note how some chapters in this book can be dauntingly long, but overall a pretty interesting read that felt vaguely familiar as if I read it before which is nice.

I found Flaubert's writing to be beautiful, but the characters were disgusting (though I liked Lady Arnoux most of the time). I would not have liked being a part of Flaubert's social circle considering he based the characters off of people he knew. I did find the history very interesting though.
