2 stars may be a little harsh, but to steal from another reviewer it is like a late night lifetime movie. The relationship Jack had with his "mom" was far fetched, I mean leaving his wedding night to answer a phone call from his mother? Also the whole premise of the book about Coralee being able to stay in the home...? I mean if Jack is a young man I am sure he could have picked her frail self up and "kicked her to the curb".
The whole idea about Meredith just "going off" was beyond weird, I mean if I was Loren and Meredith was as close of a friend/semi mom but refused to call her or come see her for months on end.....not buying it that red flags weren't going up....

I wanted to like it but, it just didn't work. It was too unbelievable for me!

A little predictable but a quick and good read!!

Fun read, but over the top twists--which makes it fun. What I really enjoyed about this book is that you will hate the mother-in-law. And many of you can relate. My mom can be like this to my girlfriends (not quite this bad) but emotionally I see it. But then again I won't put up with it either :-).

This just wasn't my cup of tea at all... Loren meets Jack and they marry after a whirlwind romance. His father dies suddenly as Loren and Jack are about to go on honeymoon. Jack puts his mother first all the time - answers her calls no matter what he is doing when she calls. They cancel the honeymoon to spend time with the mother in law and soon it becomes apparent it would be easier for the mother in law to come and stay rather than Jack staying with her. But this is the start of a chain of events that turns Loren's life upside down... but what do you do when your husband constantly sides with his mother!
I initially zoomed through thus, despite not really buying into the plot... whirlwind romance when the lead female reports that she wouldn't rush into a relationship because of the impact on her daughter - but then rushes in anyway. The drama with the mother in law just got on my nerves and I though the way the story played out was ridiculous. There was a big deal made out of a family relationship that wasn't blood family so that just seemed pointless. I did not like any of the characters in this book. By the end I wish I hadn't started it.

it was fine I don’t care for mother in laws and I’d leave a man for not believing me

This book by Kiersten Modglin is a bit different from her others. 1) It is longer (or seemed to be) and 2) There isn't a shocking twist in the end.

Still, I enjoyed the book and enjoyed absolutely hating Coralee.

This book reminded me of a Mark Edwards book, and I think that his book is even hinted to within this book. Both books are good and worth the read.

Holy. Buckets. This book- wow. This book is a whirlwind from page one. What starts out as a very sweet romance... turns very dark very quick. The writing is fantastic, the twist is so well done and you will not be able to put this book down. You will have so many feelings. You will be on the edge of your seat, until you get blown back.

A twist of fate draws Loren and Jack together and after a whirlwind romance, they quickly marry, ready to start a life together. Almost immediately after, Jack's father passed away and Loren quickly opens her home to her new and grieving mother-in-law, Coralee.

But strange happenings start to raise questions for Loren and she realizes how little she knows about Coralee and what her actual motivations might be. If she doesn't uncover those answers quickly, what she doesn’t know could kill her

What I loved...
📚 This twisted, evil play on the mother-in-law was wickedly humorous! It takes the typical stereotype but amps it up to levels you never expected
📚 My 2nd Kiersten Modglin novel and her pace is lightning speed. The story never lags, is constantly unfolding and the plot twists keep you on your toes!

What I didn't love...
📚 Meredith's character seemed a bit underdeveloped and not completely plausible. A little more attention to explain her flakiness might have added that extra element of credibility to her character
