Delightfully strange and beautifully illustrated (think noir + MC Escher). Daria Tessler's Cult of The Ibis is a fever dream following a lone survivor of a botched bank robbery as they sink deeper and deeper into desperation and alchemy. A fun and evocative read!

A trippy journey through Tessler's magical, art deco world. So wacky, I can't get over it.

Extraordinary art and detail. Loads of dark, sharp occult and spooky business. An unusual and mysterious story. This book is a beautiful piece of creepy art.

A total trip, from start to finish. Three rooster-headed figures attempt to rob a bank, and their nervous getaway driver ends up getting away with the loot. What to do with all that money? Buy a homunculus kit of course. Things get wilder and much, much trippier from there. Really, I need to read this at least one more time to feel like I've actually experienced the full thing -- there's that much on basically each page. A wonderful discovery and I'm so glad I saw that NYT review.

After reading Daria Tessler’s occult psychedelia mini-comics, I wasn’t sure how her work would translate to a longer, more plot-driven format. I needn’t have worried. Cult of the Ibis is something of a blend of Jim Woodring’s oddball “silent” comics and the zany criminal mayhem of A. Degen’s Mindhunters comics, but also something completely different and wonderful.

Cult of the Ibis follows the events and aftermath of a bank heist. The getaway driver is the only survivor after the robbery goes very wrong. The driver’s interest in amateur alchemy blends with the paranoia of their being pursued by a crime boss, leading them into an ever deeper and stranger underworld.
