Way too political at the end. Rashmina is very annoying.

This book was amazing! Halfway through, I knew this would be a 5 star read. This story deals with a tragedy our country will never forget, one I have some memories of as I had been in 1st grade when it took place, and a war that is still on-going, the longest war in US history. Such powerful subjects and the author wrote a story that allows you to truly feel that. This story pulled at so many emotions in me, the main ones being heartbreak (I actually cried), anger, and shock. The author was very detailed in the horrors Brandon and Reshmina see, and did an amazing job writing their feelings so that the reader can connect with them. I do question the recommended age range on this story, 4th grade seems a little too young for this story as the violence and tragedy was a bit graphic at times and I feel that children that young are not mental and emotionally mature enough to understand what the characters are feeling and why, to truly appreciate what this story is attempting to teach the reader. I would recommend grade 6 on up. I do feel that this is a story that everyone should read at some point however. Lots of information and perspectives that I think it's important that others learn about.
Ground Zero is the story of Brandon and Reshmina. Brandon is in the North Tower when the 9/11 attack happens. Reshmina is an Afganistan citizen in 2019, almost 20 years after September 11.
Brandon's father works in the North Tower, and Brandon comes with his father, having been suspended from school. After splitting up in the tower, the plane hits. Brandon fights to survive, not knowing if his dad will make it out alive. Brandon is only 9, but he takes you with him through the attack.
Reshmina is stuck in a war between America and the Taliban. She tries to keep her family safe, but after trying to help an American soldier, she endangers her entire village. Reshmina's tale reminds you of the significance of war and how it impacts the surrounding world.
Everything in this book was incredible. Alan Gratz told a story from two perspectives, from two different times. Loved it.
