The Genesis of Misery

This book is great if you over look it's major flaw.

Pacing. It's not slow by any means but moves too fast for you to feel any attachment to the characters other than the main character. In one chapter, a character despises someone only to be head over heels in love the next. Interesting subjects are brought up but dropped in order to get to the next plot point. Interludes that skip over parts that could be interesting in order to get it over quicker. It makes you wonder if the author had been forced to be under a certain number of pages and couldn't tell the whole story.
The pacing also leads to the lackluster ending. You can tell this book is meant to be the first in a series, but a sequel has not come out at the time of this review. Read alone, the ending is a miserable outcome for the few characters that are prominent throughout. If you are interested, wait until a sequel is published.

I very much enjoyed this book. However, I can totally see why it might not be for everyone.

That being said, I wish the book had rebuked Mistery's growing extremism earlier it the book, after a certain point, it felt a little uncomfortable that it hadn't been said yet. That being said, negative character development is something I'm interested in seeing for a MC, and seeing how they were manipulated by an AI was a really good plot twist

Not sure entirely how to feel about the Genesis of Misery. It's undoubtedly a rare and well-written book, but it just didn't connect with me. I'm very glad this book exists, but I won't be looking for more. Some extremely imaginative concepts, and I really love the idea of the main character being manipulated by strange forces into considering themselves a messiah. The truth is, though, this book was a bit of a slog.

I don't even want to get into this right now, look at other 1- and 2-star reviews and they are most likely right.
