Continuing on with my binge read of this series I've arrived at the fourth book chronicling the misadventures of Alex Craft. These are fairly fast reads and mostly enjoyable. I've said previously that I really enjoy the fae stuff in these books so the fact that this book spent a bit more time with Alex in fairy totally worked for me. Seeing her and Falin work together on the case only solidifies for me the fact that he's the better match for her.
I still want more Roy! So cute!
P.S. Yep, continuing the trend of Alex ending the book in a scene with this same character.
Spoiler
He was willing to let her go in the last book despite his feelings for her, knowing that he's not in a position to be good for her right now, and he's holding true to that. He's been unselfish and hasn't tried to pursue Alex romantically or sexually since his decision. I respect that about him.I still want more Roy!
Spoiler
Is he getting a ghostly girlfriend?P.S. Yep, continuing the trend of Alex ending the book in a scene with this same character.
I need me some Death. He is sooo amazing I like him way better than fairy boy ;)

This book felt like a filler to me... nothing too significant was in this book... except her faery status but other than that nothing. Nothing new with Death. He was only in it to kiss her twice. Falin was in it a lot but he was mostly doing the Queens bidding so he was kind of a jerk or completely ignoring her. So nothing with her love life was resolved. I just feel like there should be more than her choosing a court in a fourth book in the series.. Or.. I guess I don't know how to explain what I mean. I waited forever for this book and I think in my mind I had it all built up and my expectations were just too high... because I was majorly disappointed with it. sigh.. and now I have to wait.. well I have no clue how long but it'll be awhile. I will absolutely keep reading the series because the story line is fantastic and I love all the characters. I just need some answers!
4 small stars. Enjoyable even though the WHAT and WHO was rather obvious.
Good, but nothing really moved forward. I was really hoping for more development of the other courts, especially after finding out about her betrothal to the shadow realms. The king of the nightmare realm was interesting too, and he could have had a bigger part to play. Even with Falin it was boring. You'd think between him and Death being around Alex there would have been more of a story, more tension, but no it was mostly just a standard running around story.
3.5 stars. It's been four years since I read the last book (wow!), and I had a bit of trouble at first remembering the characters and why I liked this series so much. But that quickly passed as I got back into Alex's world.
Death didn't have as big a role in this one as prior novels, and I missed him! Falin was here, however, always in the background. And ghost Roy, I really like him. He needs a bigger role in the next one!
The mystery had a slow build, and I enjoyed the story. I only wish the pacing had been a bit faster. Alex is trying to determine who is distributing a deadly drug called Glitter to the humans. She also continues to be dragged into court politics, and it becomes apparent she must make a decision on which court to join very soon.
Overall, though, this book reminded me that this series is one worth reading. I can't wait for the next one!
