I had been waiting so long for this book. The previous 3 installments had a lot of interaction with the mortal world and this one seemed to be exploring the fae part. Usually when I read a book, I have a clear favorite male to counterbalance the heroine. In this series, I don't know who to root for, Falin or Death.
One thing is for sure if Kalayna keeps writing, we will be entertained. Sadly enough I devoured this book in just a weekend and I could not believe when it was done.

It has been a REALLY long time since book three, GRAVE MEMORY, came out (four years to be exact). I was worried that I would be totally lost when I jumped into GRAVE VISIONS because of the length of time, but besides a few things that had me searching my memory a little harder than normal I had no trouble jumping right back into the storyline.
Alex has always been kept on her toes and GRAVE VISIONS is no different. I was exhausted reading about how exhausting her hectic life is at the moment. Surprisingly only two weeks have passed in Alex's life since the end of GRAVE MEMORY and things are still raw in her mind. A surprise call from someone at the police station brings her into a case that ends up connecting to a problem that is affecting the Winter court and she is getting pressure to solve the case on both sides. Not only that, but the fact that she hasn't yet aligned herself with a court is causing her and those tied to her to fade away. She is racing against the clock in many ways and it was truly a great ride.
After GRAVE VISIONS I am no longer into Alex's relationship with Death. He no longer seems to fit into Alex's life and I just didn't feel the spark that was present in previous books. Falin on the other hand.... I know Alex can't fully trust him and that's a problem, I just feel like they are a great team. If Falin could get out from under the Winter Queen's hand, I think they could have a really great shot. I don't see that happening though. Isn't it amazing how going in with four years between books makes you change your mind? I'm not sure if I would feel differently if I had re-read the previous books before reading GRAVE VISIONS. On another note, Alex sure is getting quite popular with the guys. Everyone seems to want a piece of her and I am really loving her reactions.
So, I really enjoyed GRAVE VISIONS. It was everything I was hoping for, but I am hesitant to get too excited for the future. I see that book six has been added to Goodreads, but so far there isn't a title or a release date. Will it come out before another four years passes? I sure hope so.

A little repetitive at times, but I am glad to have Kalayna and Alex back in my life.
I really liked this book. I felt like the story line moved alone well. I just dd like the long period between book made me forget what had happen etc. overall a good read.
The fourth installment was so much better than the ones before. This was largely due to the fact we finally get to explore more of Alex’s non human side. The focus of this book was on Alex and not her relationship with Death or her feelings for Falin. I felt that for the first time there was more of a story/ plot to follow.
#TeamFalin, just sayin'. I'm really glad the author found her way back to this series. The world building, storytelling and pure imagination involved in this series is nothing short of amazing. The details... the. details. They are flawless. So much so, that sometimes parts of the books are hard to read because they are so graphic or horrific. This is definitely not a series for the faint of heart. But those parts need to be there to enhance and build the story and emotions. I'm going to jump into book 5 after a light, fluffy read to break up the violence.

About 1 year ago I wrote a Fun Questions post semi ranting, semi trying to understand what to do When Authors Just Stop. One of the books that motivated me writing that post was this one. Grave Visions had at least 3 different release dates that were then cancelled. At one point Amazon changed the release date to something ridiculous like 2099. As in, "it's never happening folks." Turns out we were all wrong. It happened. And for me, at least, it was worth the wait.
While I really hope the next book won't take near as long, I've decided not to complain too much. Some books are worth the wait and Grave Visions really was!

What Worked
- I continue to adore this world. The Fae are one of my favorite things to read about, even though I should admit I know very little about them. The way Kaylana Price has them mixed into our world is fantabulous in my opinion. We see a lot more of Faerie as Alex gets mixed up and forced into working with the Winter Queen and I loved every minute.
- An extension of the world is the magic. And I really love the magic in this world. I like that there are clear rules and penalties for magic use. I love that using grave sight hurts Alex's vision. I don't like worlds where people are all powerful. Alex is tough, but not without her handicaps.
- The relationships! I say relationships because this is one of those series that has some really great friendships, not just dating. I love how close Alex is to her friends and I love how involved they are in her life. I'm eager to see how the pressures to have Alex chose a court will impact her friends moving forward.
- Alex! She's smart, but makes stupid mistakes. To me, that means she's just so real and so human (well, fae, but human-esque). Her heart leads her down some dumb paths, but she's clever and solving mysteries that the Winter Queen herself is blind too. That makes her pretty kick ass in my book!
- Fallin :) I think I'm one of the few on team Fallin. What can I say... he just makes a hell of a lot more sense than Death, especially after Grave Memory. Well Grave Visions had a lot of Fallin, so that made me very happy.
- Oh and I can't forget to sing the praises of Emily Durante. I've always liked her as a narrator and she's just great for this series. She pulls off male and female voices equally well and her pacing does well with my 2x speed listening!
What Didn't Work
- Ummm.... why in the HELL are Death and Alex still dating? Considering what happened in Grave Memory that seemed like it should be 100% out of the picture for me
- I don't want to get spoilery, but I think Alex forgot an important detail when choosing courts, pertaining to Rhianna and her living situation... just saying and very worried.
- The wait of course lol

The romance and love triangles continue to be silly, but it also continues to be a very fun fantasy world.
I enjoyed this. Good characters and a good plot. I wish she's work out her love life but it's really more UF than PNR anyway.
