Another good Eve Chase read and couldn’t put it down. As often with dual timeline books, the historical story was much more riveting than the current day timeline which was a little dull.

This mystery took a while to suck me in, but by about 100pages I was hooked. I love a book which flits between narrators, and this has two stories in the same home, in different time periods - it really built the anticipation with certain objects or rooms having moments in both, helping connect the dots.
The mystery itself had a satisfying ending, with a twist I didn't guess - but partly because I stopped trying to. The writing is so lovely and the undertones of everything going on sort of stopped me thinking about the whodunnit elements. I loved how the house itself was carrying trauma for people, and I thought it was written beautifully. I'll def be picking up more by this author.

Om at være søstre, om at holde fast og give slip, om at huske tingene sådan så de er til at bære.

Reminded me of The Famous Five or that kind of ilk. Felt jolly wholesome with one POV set late 50s & the other 50 years later all centred around Applecoat Manor in which bad things happened. A slow burner which I didn't mind, as it was an easy read but I'm still not sure what I thought of it. Possibly because it felt like the vanishing part sort of all worked out nearly & wholesome in the end.

4 stars, just barely. Is it wrong to say I didn’t like the ending?
