I have a bindup of every play Shakespeare has ever written. It is my goal to read them all by the day I die. This is step six of reaching that goal.

I listened to the audiobook version which was more of a play put into an audio form which I loved. I think the different voices and background noises added to the overall experience.
This book was definitely a book full of angst and jealousy.

I think Much Ado About Nothing deals with friendship and relationships in such a way that made it seem like real life. Everything was not peachy for them, not everything went their way, just like life.

Overall this was not my personal favorite of his. I think that label is given to Romeo and Juliet, yes I know, that sounds crazy but it is. This book is not his best work but it is still quality and worth reading if you love William Shakespeare or just classics in general.

this is pure gold. if i were to list my favorite quotes it would end up being half the play but here are a couple from my favorite couple:

“in our last conflict, four of his five wits went halting off, and now is the whole man governed with one, so that if he have wit enough to keep himself warm, let him bear it for a difference between himself and his horse, for it is all the wealth that he hath left to be known a reasonable creature.” -beatrice, about benedick

“i will live in thy heart, die in thy lap, and be buried in thy eyes.” -benedick, about beatrice

One of my favourites. Half a star off for the Hero and Claudio plotline taking up far too much time.

"[...] But manhood is melted into curtsies, valour into compliment, and men are only turned into tongue, and trim ones too. He is now as valiant as Hercules that only tells a lie and swears it. I cannot be a man with wishing, therefore I will die a woman with grieving."

“I do love nothing in the world so well as you — is not that strange?”

After Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing was the second Shakespeare play I ever saw performed onstage and I could scarcely believe the bard was capable of writing something so in-your-face funny. Modern romance authors are forever dreaming of banter like the scenes between Benedick and Beatrice and, as always, after complete chaos ensues and you’re scratching your head wondering how this will EVER work out, Shakespeare manages to tie it all up in a bow and send you on your way. 🩷 High praise to this particular BBC version with David Tennant and Samantha Spiro — the best version I’ve heard so far!

Silly little mess of a “love story”
