My very first dive into William Shakespeare's works. I picked up this one because I want to start reading "Iris Kelly doesn't date" by Ashley Herring Blake, and the character in here tries out for the role in local queer retelling of this story - so that was the perfect timing for me to pick this one up and give it a try.
It's safe to say I had some difficulty understanding some of the language used in this book, but as I kept reading it seemed to get a little easier. I like Beatrice and Hero, that is all I further have to say about this book because I feel like I am not the right person (yet) to comment on anything else that is William Shakespeare's work.

Love this play but wow does Claudio never improve or come across as less of a dick each viewing and reading of it.

4 stars. Somehow I’d forgot how funny this play is and just how much I enjoy it. It’s a riot. The characters are zany, the dialogue is witty, and the writing is sharp and quick witted. I thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading this and it’s another one of my favorites by Shakespeare. I need to read more of his comedies because they are truly entertaining in how over the top and wacky they are.

funny lighthearted medium-paced

This is a comedy set in Messina, Sicily and it follows two couples, Hero and Claudio who are very much in love and are tricked into believing Hero is unfaithful and then you have Beatrice and Benedick who are tricked into believing the other is in love with them although really they detest each other. It is the original enemies to lovers type scenario!

It is full of drama, confusion, chaos and deception, all combining together to create a funny play which I can imagine is hilarious to watch live. There are some of the best characters featured and I definitely recommend reading this play if you haven’t before. It is a fun one.
