2025: It’s been a while since I last read this and as I’m seeing it on stage next week I was due for a reread. I still think this comedy is incredibly funny and even though I prefer Shakespeare’s tragedies over comedies, I enjoyed it a lot. I still think Benedick and Beatrice are a great couple and I love their enemies to lovers plot. The treatment of Hero is still infuriating to me and I still believe she should not have taken him back, but alas (funfact I had to do a portfolio for a class where we read the play and as part of it I did a rewriting of the ending where Hero dumps Claudio’s ass AS HE DESERVES).

One of my favourite Shakespeare plays, and honestly the entire first scene is the master text on how to write a witty, bickering couple. No wonder their friends tricked them into liking each other so they'd bother each other for the rest of their lives.
