This is a good book. The novel hooked me from the beginning and kept me reading until well past my bedtime. The narrative style is a departure for Picoult as it deals with five main storylines and detours into the lives of the people being held hostage. However, it lacks that big moral dilemma that is standard in the author's previous books. When the last page is turned, the book's purpose seems to be to wax poetic about the various ways clinics such as the one featured here help women in need.

Important topic viewed from an interesting vantage point.

It’s pretty certain that I will enjoy a Jodi Picoult book, and this was no exception. So nuanced and detailed, I can’t imagine the amount of research she does because A Spark of Light comes across as if it was written by an expert (which happens with every book of hers I’ve read). This book was such a beautiful depiction of the complicated world of abortion rights and I didn’t find any part of it reductive. I sympathised with the characters I disagreed with as much as the rest and I think that’s a very special thing.

The timeline confused me a little bit - I think I probably should have read it in a shorter time span and not at the same time as another book. There were a couple of plot twists, one which I expected and the other I didn’t, and the unexpected one especially added another layer to an already intricate story. Would highly recommend (although I can’t say it was a ‘fun’ read - definitely engaging though!)

I am ProLife I know that, but this book really gives an insight into abortion and I enjoyed the depth of the characters.
