An abortion clinic in Mississippi is the setting for this story; a gunman enters the clinic killing and injuring employees and patients as he plays out revenge for his daughter’s abortion. Themes of what these clinics deal with as the attempt to provide women their legal right to abortion while in the face of constant harassment from the “pro life” protesters. The author takes us into the minds and stories of characters on both sides of this issue.

A timely topic exploring a woman's right to choose, and the reactions of others when a woman exercises that right - I didn't love the reverse chronological telling of the story, and the "twist" that Picoult books are known for didn't land completely for me. I liked the story, most of the characters, and it made me think and moved me as a good book should, but it left me wondering about too many fates, some story lines weren't completed as neatly as I would have liked.
This was a great read. I loved how the story was told in reverse-chronological order and I thought that this stylistic choice lent itself well to this particular story. I appreciated the author's use of statistics and it is readily apparent that the author conducted careful research to ensure that she provided accurate information on a very sensitive topic.

It's great that this novel gives you lots of different perspectives to consider on the topic at hand but the reverse timeline style did not work for me and it was rather lacklustre emotionally.

I just felt like this dragged on for so long. Way too slow moving
