ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING GRAPHIC NOVELS THAT I HAVE EVER READ. MY MIND WAS BLOWN AND I HAVE NO WORDS.

I did really enjoy this, but I wish it focused more on the opening premise - that these girls who could travel to other worlds had special powers. Instead, it does go a more action-packed route, but I wish there was more time given to them hanging out. I really hope this becomes a series.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel that ties Alice, Dorothy, and Wendy together in the same story. It's a fun reimagining where they all interact with each other and their worlds collide again and again. The girls are teens here, so they have more rebellious/feisty natures than in their respective books. We also see how their worlds have fared in the time without them, which adds to the fun. I don't know that this would make as much sense if readers weren't familiar with the books it calls to, since a lot of the references are from the books that aren't as well known. It can also be a little choppy sometimes in terms of narrative, but it was fine for me because it's not meant to be too serious. I like the ending which leaves things open for more installments. The concept reminded me very much of Lost Girls, but this is definitely for a teen and up audience, unlike Lost Girls which is extremely adult. Very fun and quick.

For: adaptation fans; readers looking for a graphic novel full of literary connections.

Possible red flags: language; violence; characters in peril.

This was very...okay. Love the art and that's why it gets 3 stars and not 2. Very weird seeing the Wicked Witch of the West and Captain Hook immediately fall in love and Peter Pan being horny.

What happens when Dorothy (of Oz), Wendy (of Neverland), and Alice (of Wonderland) have returned from their respective lands? Well, of course the adults in their lives think the girls have gone insane and need a bit of mental health treatment. But, what if they get sent to a boarding school run by someone who believes them?

To be fair, Andy Weir wrote this as a webcomic and fanfiction before he gained fame with The Martian. However, it wasn’t published until after The Martian gained him notoriety so I would expect a bit more spit-and-polish to it. The story felt choppy and could have used some more gentle segues between the worlds. I know lots of folks are all over the awesomeness of the artwork but I was not: these girls were supposed to be teens and they definitely do not look like teens. Again, I would have liked to see some differences between the worlds. Maybe a change in color schemes? Or a slight variation in style? It would have aided the “where am I now” feel and helped with those choppy transitions.

I did enjoy that Andy Weir went to the books for his canon rather than Disney. I cheered when I saw Dorothy’s silver shoes and an appearance by Tik-Tok. This was a book that had so much potential. So much, in fact, that I would read another volume. But I do not think this graphic novel was successful enough for Random House to take the plunge on second story.

** Thank you to a respected colleague who reminded me I needed to read this Andy Weir work. After all, we do love our children’s classics! **

What if Dorothy, Alice, and Wendy all ended up at a boarding school togehter because people thought they were insane for believing in made up worlds?
This book is fun, funny, and unique. It had me laughing out loud and dying to know what happened next.

This had such a wonderful sounding premise, and then was such a disappointment. The story (as little of it as there was) was just all over the place, and none of the characters or story had any weight to them. The art was nice though.
