REVIEW FOR FUTURE ME WHEN I FORGET THAT I EVEN READ THIS BOOK:
The last page was the 64th thing to make you cry this year and the second thing to make you cry tonight because you just got back from watching Venom 3 and it was sooooooo saaaaaaaad so you thought you’d read the rest of your lovely romance-but-not-romance book to make you feel better and instead you’re crying again because you had to read the letter her mum wrote her and it was

I wasn’t sure about all the little sub-plots in the book, but once I got to the end it all made sense. Finished the book with a warmth in my heart. Such a good read. My first book from this author and I love how she writes! I’ll definitely be reading more from her.
This was a good story! My one qualm is that I truly thought the wedding scene where they stand up and expose the abuser was going to be a failed mission or some kind of set up which I was on the edge of my seat waiting for, it wasn’t and I’m glad but also Cal set it up to be a dubious decision.. but other than that so good!

I really enjoyed this book! Initially, I expected a light and fluffy romance, but it ended up being much more complex. It explores how our past will always catch up with us if we don't confront it, affecting all aspects of our lives. The main character has an emotionally abusive ex boyfriend, a bitter ex fiancé and a traitorous friend but also a lovely community of women looking out for her and of course - a romantic connection with her hot landlord!!!
Rating: 3.4 stars
There's lots to like in this book, and I'm a big fan of MM's writing. I also love the cities she sets her novels in; Leeds is a great setting for this.
She writes about toxic relationships really well, but that's where the realism ends, as what follows is probably wish-fulfilment for many. Who wouldn't want to (mild spoiler alert!) so comprehensively take down a terrible ex in this way and with such style. Getting the guy seemed to happen so effortlessly alongside the drama. But that's what these books are essentially for; fairytale narratives set in something resembling real life.
Anyway. I finished it very quickly as it was compelling and entertaining. Just raised an eyebrow at some of the things that were too good to be true.

I loved the main character and the friendship but the romance was only so-so for me. The dive into abusive relationships and toxic men was a surprise but really well done. The story was uplifting at the end and I liked the girl power aspect of it but it was not an easy read.
