Loved this, as usual from this author. Her depiction of gaslighting is so spot-on it's almost hard to read in some spots and will definitely make you cringe. But it's in that realism that she builds her incredible characters and plows toward the ending which I just could not put down. I always love a book with a strong female, strong female friendships, and a depth of her character decisions. The romance fell a bit flat for me, but good thing that was the side story.

My third MM novel!
I love the author's style and while I see a "formula" emerge in her stories, the way she weaves the depictions of both healthy and unhealthy relationships is unlike any other.
I read this one on my way back from Japan on a long travel day, and the book entertained me for the bulk of it.
Out of all 3 books I've read of hers so far, this one is one where I felt most conflicted about the characters. I think it was because Harriet wasn't my favorite - though it's not like I particularly disliked her. This book also dealt with a lot more nuance as it relates to toxic relationships, and I somewhat at odds looking through the lens of a protagonist that I didn't always completely agree with. I think it's because I didn't really grasp her as a character - at some points she showed herself to be strong and completely able to hold her own, and at other points she seemed spineless and whiny.
The romance portion was less flushed out than her other novels, but I didn't take much issue with it except that it felt a bit rushed towards the end.
All in all, I'll continue to seek out MM books, because I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey 3/3 times!

Went on a streak of rereading books from chick lit authors I know I enjoy - I think I enjoyed this one a tad more on the second round. At the very least, it gave me the entertainment I needed on a long drive home solo!

I love love loved this book Mhairi McFarlane does a phenomenal job writing realistic and complex characters and all with their own quirks and personalities. I also enjoyed the overarching theme of people are not as they seem and there’s always more to the story than it seems
really just zooming through mhairi mcfarlane’s books. this one had an interesting plot but i didn’t really care about the characters or ‘love story’.

I liked it. The main two characters don't actually spend that much time together but the time they do spend together is pretty legit. I loved the secondary characters especially Lorna the female friendship in the book was really fabulous and interesting. There was a lot of nonsense from the main character's exes but it made it very entertaining if frustrating.
