4.5 stars! What a beautiful, lovely book! I absolutely adore Mhairi McFarlane's ability to write witty contemporary fiction is always so spot on. This is one of those books that I read at the right time and it just hit so perfectly. I saw so much (painful at times) of myself in Harriet. I loved her journey and how the book ended. This is definitely more of a contemporary fiction with romance subplot, and shouldn't be confused as a full romance novel. I do wish we would've gotten a bit more of Cal and Harriet, because they did fit with each other so well, hence the 4.5 stars. But truly just so good all around.
Good writing and story, just the romance was very secondary to her dealing with her exes so more of a complaint of false advertising

At first i wasn't having fun reading it , didn't find it that interesting or page turner.
But then it was so entertaining in a light and delightful way. I think the only problem with the book is the title as it indicates romance mainly while personally i found it more about friendship and personality growth

Is it possible for Mhairi McFarlane to write something I won't love? I'm beginning to think not. (vague spoiler) I LIVED for the John Tucker Must Die vibes. And one of my favorite epilogues ever.

"His Merc keys were slung as a casual status symbol next to his flat white, and Harriet was struck anew that she had been in a relationship with someone who refused to get public transport even when it was far easier than driving." (126)
"No one is seduced by someone showing their worst traits up front." (193)

It feels like there are two plots happening concurrently, and tbh I think either the love interest could have been left out completely or incorporated into the sub plot more. The focus of the book is more on the past relationships than it is with developing the subsequent one and, although I appreciate a romance book with an agenda and theme, it felt like the balance was slightly too much towards the past than the future? They hadn't quite interacted enough by the end to be believable.
Other than that, super random unrealistic ending but I was having a good time reading it so all is forgiven? It is funny, and I enjoyed the Northern representation, I would pick up another one.
