A MUST READ BOOK. A meticulously researched, in-depth analysis, and horrifying glimpse, into the online world of incels, PUAs, MGTOW and other manospheres. Bates’ deep dive into these spheres, plus her analysis of high profile misogynists and their effect on normalising abusive and sexist language and behaviour is scary and eye opening. This book will make you uncomfortable, angry, sad and sometimes even sick in the stomach, but it is essential reading and hopefully starts some important conversations.

Not going to lie this was a really hard read, however I couldn’t put it down. Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse it does. The author goes into incredible detail discussing the ways men of the “manosphere” threaten, encourage, and outright commit violence against women. She then goes on to talk about how so little is being done about it and the excuses being made to protect their behavior.
I think this is a really important book everyone should read, or at least read some part of. My only big critique is that I wish she talked more about intersectionality of race and queerness.

Deals with important themes, and uncovers just how prevalent these groups are. Slightly repetitive writing though, like when you have to reach a the word count in an essay

A very horrifying and important read. This book so perfectly put words to everything that I have been seeing online and in person.

This book is so important about highlighting the gravity of incel and misogynistic right wing groups online but I felt that it was a repetitive read that could have been made much more accessible to those who need to read it; parents, teachers, children and members of the communities themselves. I fear that this will limit its impact.

Such a disturbing yet necessary read. Really eye opening to what is going on in spheres outside of my own. The last chapter really was needed after so many devastating and heartbreaking stories. I don’t typically dip my toe into the non fiction realm but Spotify audio books came in clutch for sure
