Very mixed on this one. On one side, it is an interesting take on a fantasy world revenge story. However, it's not very original with its oppressive caste system. They use dragons as weapons and have very rich mythology with the afterlife. Yet, most of the book feels like a training montage that will never end. There's loads of action and fights if that's your forte. (The violence can be extreme in places). Exposition is done in a dump by the female characters. I liked it overall and would have liked it more if I had not just read Priory of the Orange Tree. Priory seemed to add the mythology and world-building in an organic way. The world-building aspects in this book were arduous to read, especially in comparison to its fight scenes which are top-notch.
