A huge thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for letting me read this manga in exchange for an honest review!

This is such a cute story, but it moves a lot faster than most shojo high school romances I've read before! I really like how Takasago challenges Suehiro's insecurities and pushes her to trust him. I like how Suehiro is slowly coming to realize that he is serious about her. I really need the next volume because I want to see how these two will continue to grow together!

Suehiro is a first-year high school student that nobody really notices. She's always got her head in a book and she doesn't have any friends. Takasago is the outgoing and popular guy that's been given the penalty game where has to ask out an unpopular girl. He chooses, Suehiro, of course, but after Suehiro calls out the penalty game, he tells her he still wants to go out.

This is the first volume of a series and so far, it's pretty typical for a shoujo manga. Suehiro fits the nerdy, wallflower stereotype and Takasago fits the popular guy one. Takasago is rather pushy early on, which is a bit annoying but it's so typical for this genre. He eases up a bit later on and then Suehiro starts to spread her wings due to her own willpower to change. This is is a pretty common trope in shoujo and it seems representative of the culture. Individuality is not valued so much like in our western society.

It's a cute story and so far is very enjoyable. I'm curious as to whether there's anything noteworthy in future volumes so might give them a look when they come out.

Overall, it's pretty good and I give this three stars.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha for sharing an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book . The story is about an introvert who falls in love with the popular boy . I think the story line was a little typical . However the execution of the story was beautiful , I loved the romance in it . The plot was fun and enjoyable although a little cliche . A very light , gun , romantic , lovely read .

*I received this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

This book didn't hit the mark for me. While some aspects of it were good, and I did like the female lead. There were just a lot of things that didn't work for me.

I've seen a fair few reviews mentioning how cute the relationship was, but for me it was just littered with red flags.

The whole relationship just felt controlling and weird to me, and I didn't like that aspect at all.

I don't know where the next volume will take this, and potentially it could change my rating of this volume of we weren't supposed to be rooting for them as a couple.

As it stands right now, this book just wasn't for me.

Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book in return for an honest review.

Rating: 3.5⭐
This was quite a nice and easy read and I can't wait to read more. The premise of this is where Takasago asks Suehiro out on a dare/punishment from a game which, if done right, can be great and I think this was done rather well!

Would I Read It Again? Yes
Would I Recommend it? Yes

Thanks to Netgalley for providing this arc. This story was very adorable in a classic shoujo-romance way. I'm looking forward to continuing the series. There were a few things that moved really fast, but it makes sense since you want to catch the readers attention in the first volume, to make sure you can even publish the next one.

How do you ask a girl out? Just keep bullying her until she has no choice, but to say yes.

Then just boss her around, make her the focus of school gossip, and not respect her decisions.

Sorry, this guy is a walking red flag for me. Everything about his personality just irritated me, and although our main character is a reserved bookworm, that doesn’t give you the right to take her out of her comfort zone. She’s an introvert. That doesn’t mean she needs someone to force her out of her shell. He just kept annoying me with how he made her to go with his flow. Maybe I related to the main character too much, I’m an introverted bookworm too, and I would not appreciate a guy doing this to me, and for it to be considered romantic. Just don’t.

I also smell a love triangle coming, and I’m hoping the main character dumps the main guy for him. They had more chemistry in those two scenes they had together than she had with the actual love interest.

Takasago is popular and an athlete and out of the blue he asks out shy Suehiro who prefers to read books rather than socialize. Everyone assumes he approached her on a bet or some chivalrous impulse. Even Suehiro is sceptical about his motives and doesn't understand why he persists in befriending her. There are hints at some past events that seem to trouble him which he is yet to open up about with Suehiro. There is also a hint of a love triangle in the making. Another mystery is who is the student author of Suehiro's favourite book? I'd be happy to read more in this series. My only complaint was that Takasago tends to be a little too domineering in an old school Shoujo type of way and propels the heroine into the centre of attentions rather against her better judgement.

Nice but too classic for the moment

Key words: shojo, romance, high school

This was a nice read but a bit too classic. Indeed, we have the usual and cliché shojo where the shy girl that doesn’t talk to anyone is asked out by the most popular guy of high school and she begins to open up. Sometimes it works and sometimes less. Here I didn’t get attached to the characters and I don’t have an intense desire to read the next volume. However, I always think it is strange to judge a manga series just on its first volume so I will read the next one to see how the story goes.

I recommend it if you’re looking for a relaxing read without thinking needed

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC! I loved this manga. I thought that Takasago was persistent in pursuing Suehiro but in a cute way that wasn’t too stalkerish. They have a very interesting meet-cute. As a bookworm it was such a relatable moment when Suehiro fell in love with a boy because he wants to read the same book as her. I also thought it was so cute how supportive Takasago was towards Suehiro and how he tried to get her out of her shell and go live her dreams. The whole club situation is just so precious and OMG there’s head pats
