So well researched and sewn together by the author. Took me a while to get through this book but so much to hold with this story. A brave couple who escaped slavery, lived lives of advocacy, and never stopped chasing their dreams. Great book and well deserving of all the accolades it has received.

A truly exhilarating true tale, rich with history that I hadn’t appreciated from this perspective. But if a slow read but very worthwhile.

Very well researched. Very informative. Reads like a research paper.  Highly recommended for the reader desiring to know more about slavery, the abolitionist movement and the legal, moral turmoil in the years leading up to the Civil War. Excellent portrait of the times.
