**crickets chirping**looks around** What did I just read???

Ok...
I’m trying to wrap my head around everything I just read and can only come to one conclusion. This book is SERIOUSLY MESSED UP!
Holy cow! I LOVED IT!
This book is definitely NOT for the faint of heart. Heed the warning, my friends. It’s not for the weak.
Now, if you’re one of the strong, **chest pump for you** you will appreciate this complete mind **** of a book.
Aside from a few formatting issues, this book was amazing.
The main characters were beyond psychotic and deranged.
It was cringe worthy is the best way possible.
If there’s a word more potent than gory, that the label this book deserves.
I can’t wait to see where else this series is going to take us.
What a cliffhanger this book ended on!
**Mega Bomb Dropped**

A lot of books have disclaimers warning you that it will be dark but I think this is one of the few that actually deserve it. It had unrepentant murder, an abused protagonist and gore filled killings. However it also had instalove so take that how you will.

Super dark but great

Maybe a 3.5? This was entertaining enough, but I was so confused about many things. The world building needed a lot of work and the time jump from what happens to Cali in the beginning to "present day" needs clarity... like how did she end up where she is???? So many questions I am hoping will be answered in the second book.... If I ever get to it.

4,5*

***3.5 stars***

At the moment, I'm currently undecided whether I liked this one or not, of if I would continue with the rest of the series.

I can say with certainty, this is really f-ed up like seriously. This is a mind-f at its greatest. I can see how people have likened the h to resemble Harley Quinn and maybe even the Joker. I can tell you one thing, Romero is one of the most messed up, savage characters I have ever had the pleasure or displeasure of reading.
dark fast-paced

natalie bennett is one sick and twisted motherfucker and sometimes, that's exactly the kind of content i'm in the mood to read. with that said, when going into her books you HAVE to leave your morals behind. the stuff that goes on in her books is always problematic, controversial and all those adjectives people like to usually throw. it's like a mix of dark romance with horror and gore. i'm talking straight up dismembering, cannibalism, rape, russian roulette with a gun up the vajayjay kind of sick.
my problem with this book was that bennett didn't fully develop the world nor the characters. the insta-love was another issue i had with this, because calista and romero's relationship went from 0 when they met to 100 in the span of days. my problem with the world building is that she introduces an interesting concept but never fully fleshes it out. is it dystopian, post-apocalyptic or paranormal?? we don't know cause she didn't spend the time focusing on that and the result is a very vague world with cults in what seems to be a barren planet earth. again, with a little bit more of content this would have been ten times better. i'll see if any of that gets explained in the next  books.

descriptionI pretty much love anything that Natalie Bennett writes. Anyone that follows my reviews is very aware of that fact. I fangirl just about every book she writes and that I get the pleasure of reading and reviewing. And I will again be fangirling over this one. In fact, this may be my favorite Natalie Bennett book TO DATE. It was the same dark and twisted mindf-ckery that Miz Bennett is known for and then some...

~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~
It's always hard for me to review a book like this. I don't want to say too much and spoil anything but I also want to give readers a sample of what to expect. I will say that it was very well written. Like I mentioned, probably my favorite book to date from this author. The pace was fantastic. The plot was engaging and had me hooked from page one. It was dark. It was twisted. It was gritty. It was gross. It was f-cked up. It had twists and turns. Blood and gore. Pleasure and pain. and I LOVED every single minute of it. I really wish I had book two already now because I NEED to know WTF is going down.

~HERO~
Romero...he was the devil himself. A totally sexy as sin psychopath. He owned it. He didn't make any excuses for it. He reveled in it. He claimed Calista as his own right from the start. I loved him. I don't know what that says about me and I don't rightly care (lol). I can't wait until book two to see what he is hiding.

~HEROINE~
Calista...the perfect other half to Romero. Not sure out of these two which was the more f-cked up. Cali was her own brand of psycho. She didn't quite own it as much as Romero. But she was getting there. I loved her character and hope she gets the chance to exact much more revenge in the next book.

~SIDE CHARACTERS~
This one had a good cast of secondary characters. There wasn't a lot of them but the three that feature heavily were all very intriguing. I wouldn't mind seeing each one get a book. Of course, I suppose that depends on what happens to them in book two. They may not even be still breathing by the end of that one.

~HEAT LEVEL~
This one was medium hottish. The sex scenes were hot, and the frequency felt appropriate for the story. This couple had crazy hot on page chemistry and their connection was very insta-lust.

~ANGST LEVEL~
Low. I didn't find this one angsty at all. It really wasn't the type of book that uses angst to move the story along. There also wasn't any OW or OM drama.

~IN THE END~
I loved this one. I have already said that a few times in this review but it was worth mentioning again. I have a thing for dark romances. The darker and twisted they are the more I seem to enjoy them and Natalie Bennett knows her way around twisted for sure. Everything about this one from the writing itself, to the plot, to the character development, was fantastic and shows me that this author just keeps learning and improving with every book that she releases. This one gets TWO huge thumbs up from yours truly.description
