Wagamese's final, unfinished novel contains stunningly beautiful prose about connections to the land and a propulsive narrative characterized by warring concepts of masculinity. It's unfortunate it wasn't completed, but this publication is a terrific presentation of his vision.
Richard Wagamese had a writing style that could burrow deep into me. This was his last book and it is unfinished but still very much worth reading. Even in the darkest themes, Wagamese writes in poetry. I sobbed.

This book was written so beautifully, and was so emotional and heartbreaking. It saddens me greatly that Richard Wagamese is no longer with us, and that the world is deprived of any more of his poetic works.
I have mixed feelings about this work being published after Wagamese passed away as it is only partially finished. Although it is a gift to have one last bit of his writing, we are not reading it in the way he indented it to be received since it is incomplete. In the 'A Note on the Ending' at the back of the book it is stated that Wagamese intended the last line of Starlight to be "And then they began to run." So that is how I will think of these characters, on the run, together and towards something.
so so so good. Wagamese was an incredible writer. I always feel that I am in the scene. He was a powerful writer. We lost him too soon.

I'm so glad they chose to publish this, even though it was incomplete. I found myself dwelling on every sentence, just wondering at how beautifully composed it was.
