I didn't know this was unfinished work. Richard Wagamese died before finishing it. He described the end in notes and conversations so the ending is explained. Predictable ending but it doesn't matter, I'm sure it would have been well delivered.
This book called to me like books rarely do. It made me want to connect with nature, just hang in the woods, watch listen, observe, and be part of it.

I only wish he'd been able to finish it.

Beautiful writing! The 'walk-in-to' depth of description of the land, the animals, and the necessary quiet inside oneself.
The extreme contrast of Emmy and daughter Winnie at the beginning to them at the 'end' of the book shows the remarkable healing of quiet love. The quiet beauty was so contrasted by the main villain getting wilder and angrier as the hunt went on.
I was so glad that confidants and a novella gave some guidance as to what the ending of the novel would have been if Richard Wagamese had not died so unexpectedly.
A wonderful ending of a series of novels that showed to me that R. Wagamese was finding his real self after conquering many demons.
He was Vancouver Island University's first Indigenous Writer-in-Residence.

I didn’t like it as much as his other books but that’s probably because he died before he finished it. The publisher’s have included some excellent content that offers a glimpse into Wagamese’s process and it’s lovely touch. We miss you Richard

What a beautiful book. Wagamese's phrasing, amd his way with words create a story that is poignant and tender. It’s sad that he died before it was finished. But the inclusion of the essay, and the editorial speculation help to envision several endings.

I devoured this in one sitting. It is a beautiful exploration of human relationships and finding oneself in nature. This novel beautifully emphasizes the hope, healing, and resiliency that can follow trauma, and it captures the feeling of realizing that you've found a home in other people. I wish that Wagamese had a chance to finish this before he died, I can only imagine how beautiful the ending would be.

Wow. This book is full of deep truths but does not preach or lecture. It is a set of instructions without being pedantic. I’m so glad I read it. It is the sort of book one can return to on occasion throughout life and glean something different and valuable each time.
