It was good. Would be a good book for YA. I really liked the fairy concept in the book.
Fun twist on the whole faery culture as a human girl discovers she is one.
If this wasn't a free book, I would have been mad I spent money on it. Story is girl named Laurel moves with her parents so her dad can own a bookstore and she can attend public high school after being home schooled. At first starts out interesting with adjusting to public school life, and her parents seem like former hippies. They allow her her food quirks (every time you turn around she's eating canned peaches) and they don't go to doctors, mom just mixes up some herbal remedy.
Laurel becomes friends with David, who wants to be more than friends. But then laurel begins developing a growth on her back. First it's small like a pimple but then grows larger and larger and becomes a flower. Out of her back. That no one notices the lump that she has to disguise. A flower. Out of her back. Turns out she's a faerie. And faeries are plants. Walking, talking, dating plants.
Okay she meets faerie dude at her old property who is her sensei and who is also interested in her (love triangle), and finds out bad guys are after the property. The bad guys are some other creature, but not plants.
My vote is skip the series and take an herbicide to it.

This is a great book (and series) if you're looking for a good release from every day stress. I describe this and the other books as "cupcake" books - there's more substance than brain candy books but they're still chalk full of sugar.
I found Laurel to be pretty relateable, regardless of the fact that she's every girl's fantasy as far as the way she looks. She seems to have plenty of self-esteem but with a healthy dose of self-doubt. Regardless, she has a strong personality and can be quite stubborn, which I can definitely relate to.
The main focus of the book is the romantic interests and the love triangle that starts to really form between her, David, and Tamani. David seems like a pretty stand-up guy but when you find out you're a faerie and there's another faerie who's completely in love you and has been for years, you'd have a bit of a hard time not finding that appealing.

I read this when I was at my peak of reading and then I read this book and lost all hope in authors writing likeable women I stopped reading for years. Anyone who asked why I'd tell them about how this book single-handedly pained me to such a degree I needed time to recover.

I can't decide whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars. So lets give is a 3.5. It was a simple quick read. I kept me interested and entertained, but I feel like it was lacking in some crucial areas. I loved the mythical, romance, and adventure that was included in the plot. It reminded me a lot of the Twilight series. But unlike Twilight I felt like during the whole book I was only skimming the surface of the story. I feel like the author should have dived more into the storyline. I would have loved more information when Tam was explaining their history to her, and hearing more details about how Laurel felt about Tam and David. There is always a simple explanation on her feelings such as "I felt drawn to him" or "he was warm to me". I couldn't help but compare it to Stephanie Meyer's books where she is always so detailed, you can completely imagine how the narrator is feeling. I wouldn't have minded the book to be longer, even by a hundred pages or more, if she would have did more the merely skim the story.
But I still did enjoy the book and I do plan to keep reading if she continues the story to future books, but I do hope that she gets more "into it".

Wings was an amazing book. Hands down this is a must read. Everything about the way Aprilynne tells the story is amazing. Like said in another review, she reminds me of Stephanie Meyer. But instead of going for the vampire scenario she brought a new confusingly clear twisted perspective on faeries. I loved it. I loved it. I love it!

Takové milé oddechové čtení, přesně to jsem potřebovala :) Navíc jsem se nejspíš překonala ve čtecí rychlosti :D
