In Outlander’s previous book, Claire and Jamie are back together and there are not in Scotland anymore – welcome to the brave New World.
(...)
Brianna and Roger are more prominent in this book, but, honestly, I didn’t really like what the author did with Brianna, how she handled her future, I think it was a bit unnecessary and that things could have been handled differently. I liked what happened with Roger, how his strong love for Brianna showed, how he goes through the stones at Craigh na Dun and chases her down to the USA. I know some of you might think this is a spoiler, but for me it isn’t, because what matters isn’t that he went after her, but why – and that I’m not going to tell you.

Claire and Jamie’s story fell a bit behind, and got a bit lost with Brianna’s arrival. Although I liked seeing her interact with Jamie, I think there should have been more of those moments, and less fighting between them. I wanted them to try to know each other more.
(...)
In the end, it’s still a good book, and I’m already starting the next one, but this fell a bit short in comparison with the others.

It was a great journey, as always. However, I felt rather bored through the first 20% of the book and later on there were too many time "jumps" and too few details for me. There were parts I thought illogical (20th century woman travelling on her own through the 18th century Scotland's wilderness?) and parts I wish I had not read (delicate surgery during the dinner with guests as spectators?). But still... It's hard not to get attached to the heroes and to be enchanted with the surroundings - being it Highlands or America's mountains.
