Beautiful writing. I’m started a bit slow for me, but I really enjoyed the second half of the book.

This one wasn’t entirely for me, but what an in-depth coming of age tale. Written with poetic language that slows you down, encouraging the reader to sip and savor.

Loveable characters: Yes

Slow, steady and impactful in its patience to reveal its characters and their nature. The feeling that there was no rush to arrive to a point would usually make me feel impatient, but the author just delivered the plot with such thoughtful prose I was happy to relax into it. It is a story told by an older, wiser man who, it feels, is almost deliberately trying to slow down the racing and urgent instincts of his youth by retrospection. Comforting and heart wrenching.

I really enjoyed this one - moving, powerful and intriguing, it's an interesting and touching coming of age story as well as the story of a friendship between a teenager and an elderly man. I think I could have done with a touch more plot but it was a really enjoyable read nonetheless.
