I took my time with this novel because I was savouring every page of it. (The audiobook is also excellent.) I loved the warmth, the humour, the poetry, the turn of phrase. I highlighted so many chunks of text to hoard up for later because they pleased me or made me smile. This was such a gentle, feel good read and just what I needed.

This one was just too slow for me. May have been better in written format but as an audio book it just felt like it was dragging on.
What a charming story. Listened to this - which I highly recommend - the reader was perfect and his Irish accent really complemented the author’s lyrical prose. Wasn’t sure where this story was going for the longest time, but it didn’t matter as each little vignette was delightful.

I wish I’d read this one before Time of the Child, as they go together. Lovely book. Really immerses the reader in the time and the place. It was just a bit too slow for me, especially in the middle.

Loved, loved, loved the writing style. So beautiful - lyrical ! It was also not infrequently laugh-out-loud funny, which I appreciate, too.
