Didn't love this one... it felt like it was perverted for the sake of being perverted - just for the shock value. And to fit into the disturbing and twisted murder mystery genre that Gillian Flynn is famous for. I thought Ben was a terrible character, he was willing to go to jail for 25 years to protect a woman who treated him like crap. Grant it, sex can be a pretty powerful motivator and make people get extremely emotionally attached, specifically when they aren't getting love from anywhere else. When they have a deadbeat drunk for a father and a woman distracted by struggling to save her sinking farm, and raise 4 children with no money. The last 150+ pages were real page turners - that's when the story really took off. I just think there was too much build-up to get there. It bored me. I wanted to hear less of what happened before Libby discovered "what happened that night" and more about the aftermath of the truth coming out. What happened to Crystal? What was it like for Ben to finally get out of prison? Did he go see Diane? Did he go see Libby? Does he ever meet his daughter?

The entire way through, I was totally invested. I DEVOURED the middle 100 pages. Then, the "information" happened and I was like...uh, for real? I was very underwhelmed.

I really enjoyed this book. It takes a little getting into because the main character isn't really a likeable character, she's selfish and a little miserable, however, this plot is so good. I kept wanting to read on to find out who the killer is and what makes it even better is that, it wasn't obvious who it was! Pretty dark and messed up, but worth a read :)

This book was PHENOMENAL. It kept me on my toes and I didn’t want to put it down. This book can be very triggering for some and is extremely graphic and disturbing at points. However, I LOVED it and would highly recommend it to anyone!

A riveting mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end, Dark Places was a book I couldn't stop reading. Maybe it reminded me a little too much of your standard Jodi Picoult drama, but it's wonderfully flawed heroine (a trademark of Flynn) and its continuous dangerous tension set it apart most of the way through.

Much better than gone girl.
